Vancouver - Annual 2007

The centre of Vancouver's Chinese community, Richmond is a colourful clash of big-box retail stores, karaoke bars and the most diverse selection of Asian restaurants in B.C.

SHOP: Night Market

Designer knock-offs and authentic Northern Chinese street food are all at the Richmond Night Market (12631 Vulcan Way, 604- 244-8448), open 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays, all summer long.

SEE: Steveston Village

To the southwest of Richmond’s city centre is the picturesque working fishing village of Steveston, where historic commercial canneries are open for tours, and the riverside boardwalk winds past plenty of seafood-focussed cafés.

EAT: Dinesty Restaurant

With a name reflecting the Chinese love of wordplay, Dinesty (160-8111 Ackroyd Rd., 604-303-7772) is a smartly modern room where the chefs prepare their Taiwanese take on Northern Chinese dim sum — the bite-size steamed soup buns burst with hot, tasty broth
