Walk up the stone steps, through the sculpture garden and into Carmel’s oldest and largest gallery. The historical building has been home to many of the area’s finest artists for more than 80 years and is the second-oldest artist cooperative in the country. Featuring paintings and sculptures for sale by more than 100 artists living on the Monterey Peninsula, the Carmel Art Association is artist owned and offers a wide and diverse variety of artwork to purchase or just enjoy while browsing. Shows change monthly and often feature solo and group exhibitions. In addition to providing artist members exhibition space, the Association sponsors lectures, concerts, art demonstrations, and special fundraising events.

The Carmel Art Association has a long and proud heritage. Many of its early members were among the great early California artists including notables, Armin Hansen, William Ritschel, Paul Dougherty, Mary DeNeale Morgan, Percy Gray, Francis McComas, Eldon Dedini, Bruce Ariss, E. Charlton Fortune, John O’Shea, and many more. Every other year, in celebration of its anniversary, a special exhibition is held honoring one or more of the Association’s early members. The purpose and spirits of the founding members continue today retaining its identity as an artistowned and operated sales gallery for 80 years. To learn more about monthly gallery events and featured exhibits. Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
